THE OLD BAILEY – PLANT REPLACEMENT PROJECT

The Old Bailey Plant Replacement Project – As part of a multi-million pound upgrade to the back of house plant and equipment at the central criminal court in London, Hurstmore are working with Interserve Engineering Services who were appointed as the main contractor on the 10 year project.

Phase I was completed on time and on budget in December 2016. This phase saw an unused basement space converted into a new boiler house and pump room to house equipment installed in the phase and providing expansion space for future phases. A new open grid mezzanine level was introduced into the double height space and a fully fire rated ceiling was installed beneath the original structure. The basement suffered from a water ingress problem and so a full cavity floor and wall waterproofing system was installed before a 400mm thick reinforced concrete slab and block walls were built to hide the waterproofing membrane.

Numerous concrete plinths were required to sit new pumps and other equipment on and a multitude of penetrations through the building including new door openings through 900mm thick masonry walls.
